A traditional website tends to lock information together, presenting it the same way over and over. You are limited in the way you convey your data, market your product or build your image. Your customers are limited in the way they can get information from your site. Database driven websites store and present information dynamically to meet the needs of your customer. The database manages and stores the information so you can choose, compare or do any number of things with the collected data.
If your company is such that it stores large quantities of information from its clients or you need the content of your website to change dependant on who is viewing your website then a database driven site would probably be best for you.
